Transportation in Gyeongju

Gyeongju's transport is built around its bus network, the green city buses and blue intercity coaches are cheap, cover every temple and tomb, and run often enough that you rarely wait more than 10 minutes. Taxis are plentiful and a moderate splurge for short hops; they're metered. But drivers rarely speak English, so have your destination written in Korean or show the KakaoMap pin. The train station sits on the Donghae Nambu line, giving you one-seat rides from Busan and a quick transfer to the bus terminal across the street. First-timers should grab a T-money card at any convenience store, it works on every city bus and saves the exact-change scramble. Skip the hop-on sightseeing buses. They cost several times the regular fare and follow the same routes you can ride for a fraction with the city buses. If you're temple-hopping, Bus 10, 11, and 700 form the golden loop around Bulguksa, Seokguram, and downtown. For the airport run, Gyeongju is served by Ulsan Airport (USN) to the south and Pohang (KPO) to the north. Limousine buses meet most flights and drop you at the Gyeongju Express Bus Terminal. The ride is cheap and faster than piecing together local buses. If you land late, the taxi rank outside each terminal is your only option, insist on the meter and expect a moderate fare roughly double the bus price.
