Common Scams to Avoid
Taxi drivers at Gyeongju Bus Terminal (the main arrival point for airport buses from Incheon/Gimhae) sometimes claim the meter is broken for trips to central sites like Bulguksa or Bomun Lake, then demand inflated flat fares. Insist on the meter or use the official taxi queue where drivers are monitored.
Private 'tour guides' at the bus terminal or major sites approach visitors offering all-day temple tours for a set price, then add surprise charges for parking or entrance fees that should be included. Agree on exactly what is covered before entering the vehicle.
Some guesthouse touts at the bus terminal misrepresent their location as 'walking distance to everything' when properties are far from major attractions, requiring costly taxi rides. Verify locations on a map before accepting rides or bookings.
